Let’s Do A Blues Friday

Well, have we heard enough of Black Friday?  Talk about an over used phrase.

I suggest we start our own tradition  —  Blues Friday.  Use the day to do something positive for the blues.

There are many things one can do.  Buy CDs and DVDs or get concert tickets.  The three organizations listed below all do good things for the Blues.  Joining them in helping and feel good in the process.

Connecticut Blues Society

Founded in 1993, the Connecticut Blues Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of blues music in our state. CTBS is an affiliated member of the Blues Foundation, a worldwide network of 185 affiliates with an international membership in 12 countries.

CTBS is a great way to cultivate one’s love for the blues and make friends with this common interest. As a CTBS member, you’ll receive this newsletter, providing valuable information for any blues-phile, news and features on the local and national Blues scene, along with album reviews and more. Please see our new membership form on back cover to learn more on your CTBS membership today.

CTBS throws some of the best parties every year.  Starting with the Winter’s Blues Blizzard.  The IBC Challenge is the vehicle for sending a band to Memphis.  Five bands compete each night and then a finals determines the state’s representative.  This is repeated for a Solo/Duo category.

The have a CD of state bands playing their own blues.  T-shirts are also available.  Members can always be a good source of blues knowledge.
