Mardi Gras aka Fat Tuesday is coming up. It is a good reason for having a party. If we were down in New Orleans, we would be celebrating for a month. Here in Connecticut we do a long weekend.
Mardi Gras is the theme at Infinity Music Hall Friday with a Buckwheat Zydeco Mardi Gras Party. CPTV will be filming Buckwheat Zydeco’s repertoire. They play Louisiana’s hottest music with soulful original Creole tunes. The trademark exuberance is what made Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural the world’s best-loved zydeco artist, and has earned Buckwheat Zydeco fame as “The World’s Greatest Party Band.”
After 5 nominations in 3 different categories, Buckwheat Zydeco won the Grammy for Best Cajun and Zydeco album for Lay Your Burden Down in 2010. The band plays a long list of high-profile gigs year in and year out, and their music can be heard in a slew of major motion pictures and television shows.
Sunday, Marcia Ball Four time GRAMMY Nominee brings her rollickin’ piano to Infinity. Her catchy style fits right in with the Mardi Gras theme. Add her New Orleans touches and the party continues. And with some stomping boogie woogie thrown in makes for a complete night.
Saturday, is Mardi Gras Weekend at the Redding Roadhouse. Otis and the Hurricanes will be providing the entertainment.
Down in the Southwest part of the state “Shaka and the SoulShakers” will be at Two Boots in Bridgeport. A good choice for Fat Tuesday.
The big place for Fat Tuesday is the Mardi Gras tradition at Black-eyed Sally’s. It is partying all day. Up first is the All-U-Can-Eat Lunch Buffet starting at 11:30 am and ending at2:30 pm. The variety and tastes make for a some good dining.
Then the Happy Hour runs from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Specials and Free Vittles are the order of the day.
In the evening it is dancing to the bayou sounds of Rivercity Slim & the Zydeco Hogs starting at 7 pm. In addition there will be Stiltwalkers, Beads, Face Painting and as much fun as you want to make. Eat and then dance it away with the Hogs.
Over in Rhode Island at Knickerbosker Café on Saturday, it is Greg Piccolo & The Mardi Gras Expansion Pac!. Enjoy the music and cuisine of New Orleans. It’s Carnival Time at The Knick! Doors open at 6:30 pm / Music starts at 9 pm.
