The International Blues Challenge 2015

The International Blues Challenge is this week in Memphis January20 – 24.  Bands, fans, and industry professionals will be gathering to take in some good blues.  Bands from across the country and around the world will be in Memphis.

I left a lot later than usual for Memphis.  Good thing I didn’t need the stress of driving I-91 at 4 am.  By the time I left it was clear sailing.  Leaving the ice behind.

Leaving the Connecticut cold for some hot Blues.

Planes were packed as canceled flights were being made up.  Ended sitting next to a guy from UTenn Knoxville who did not know of the IBC.  Wondered why hotels were hard to find and pricey.

Thought I would settle in for a quiet night and recover from travel.  BUT, the fire alarm went off, the place was hot and the blues hadn’t started.  Had to evacuate.  Meet some of the IBCers outside.

The Memphis Fire Department responded in full force.  No problem and the firefighters had time to talk with us.

Of course we ran out with our prized possessions, me with my cameras and the musicians with their instruments.

The rest of the night was uneventful.

The econoLodge has a breakfast area and it is a good place to meet up with Connecticut people as well as band members and fans from other states.  More on that in the next Blog as the IBC begins with the International bands and a Beale St meet and greet.
