This Saturday Rocky Lawrence is LIVE at Wheelers Restaurant & Taproom in Woodbridge.  It is a special show as Lawrence with be recording it live for an upcoming album.

He has done an album of Robert Johnson songs.  He is known worldwide for his Johnson like performances and knowledge of the bluesman.Rocky’s first CD, “The Songs Of Robert Johnson As Performed By Rocky Lawrence”,  features 12 songs that are clear recreations of Johnson’s the material.  Says Lawrence, “This is what Robert would of sounded like had he been recorded today.”

He has also been writing songs with current themes and they have been well received whenever he has performed.  Rocky has taken his Robert Johnson message to the clubs of Connecticut and Mississippi, to Brazil and Italy.

While Rocky can play hard rockin’ electric guitar, he takes pride in his delta blues ability.

A long time associate and performer with delta legends David “Honeyboy’ Edwards and Robert Lockwood, Jr., he comes from a place where the music originated.

He plays and sings with a deep conviction. Whether he is performing solo or accompanying the masters, listeners experience a seasoned bluesman.

The sounds and emotions that Rocky projects are the result of a journey that began at the age of nine.  Asked about the inspiration for most of these songs he said, “As with most music you don’t seem to write when you’re happy or things are going great. It always seems to take some sort of upheaval in your daily routine to move you to express what you’re thinking and what one is feeling. Most of these songs come from personal experience that I have gone through.”

Rocky Lawrence is a true bluesman. An excellent bio by Dom, and I loved the billboard photo.
